As I posted my latest Tate/NCIS fic
Something Unnamed in an not-lj NCIS community I got some really nice and positive responses which is great. One person said something like: "Reading this shortcut I can see that you're writing a lot and that you have your own style, because you're not writing down every detail. You leave things unsaid. That's different from most of the other stories but I like this a lot."
This is a nice comment but it made me wondering. In this community there're a whole lot of fanfiction like "OMG *insert favortite pairing* DENIAL! OMG BUT WE LOVE EACHOTHER! end." You know what I mean? Out of nowhere comes the big cheesy love story with all the sappy fluff. WTH?! That does not work for heavens sake. Even a fairy tale is better written than this and everybody knows that childrens fairy tales end happily.
Don't misunderstand me: I love fluff. It's nice. It's soul food but it has to be at least a bit reasonably: the history of the characters, the motivation of their decision, etc. Not just: "Oh I recognized I'm in love with you!" - "Ok, do you wanna marry me?!"
Srsly I hate this. It's so so so so stupid and I cannot enjoy reading something like this. I do not wanna know what happens next or how the story ends because it will be fucking stupid! Ok I stop the ranting but does anybody understand me?
It's not me being arrogant and saying my fics are better. Because my fics are lame too: always the UST, the flangst, etc. It can bore you too.
A perfect example: The NCIS pairing Tony/Kate are constantly bickering, teasing, flirting, but there're a lot of things that say: No, these two will never stay with each other for longer than say two minutes. ;) So there we go with a whole lot of denial, UST and all the very entertaining (fl)angst. There NEVER ever will be sudden outbursts and/or declarations of love out of nothing. It's just not them.
But I know: This is why we call it FANficition. You create a new dimension of your fandom and these pairings. So it probably doesn't matter what you write if you like your own stuff and if you love your fandom.
But some fiction offer a lack or let's call it a void. A void of explanation and information aswell. There is a huge difference between writing fanfiction and watching an episode/movie. In an episode each character can tell by their looks, the way their mouth twitches, etc. how they feel about a situation. In a story you cannot. You have to describe the reaction and the way their voices sound. This is important! But some author don't do this at all. It's a blank dialogue, filled with information without any personal reaction. This is something I'm missing mostly. *sigh*
Okay that's it. I'm done with the ranting. *lol*
But what do you think about this?
